Question on using MarkM's layouts

I've only used perfboard and would like to try one of MarkM's layouts on pcb.  Here's my question, how do you tell the positive from the negative on polarized caps?  Does the square pad notate the negative?

Conventionally the square pad denotes the positive terminal.

That is correct, the square pads are (+).
Although it's hard to see in the layouts, the (-) area of the electros are shaded.
Very hard to see that though.
