What should I do with this thing?

I was wandering around the local ARC (sort-of goodwill) looking for a 12VAC wall wart (which they don't sell any more - something about more money in recycling) when I stumbled upon this I/O box (image below).  I couldn't pass it up for $2 (sturdy aluminum enclosure, 10x jacks...)!!!
I was thinking I could hack the parallel plug and make this thing a quad looper (or something).  Any other ideas?  I intend to put a jumper across all the resistor/cap pairs - should be slick!

Thanks for looking.

Well, it wouldn't be very DIY but you could find one of the multipin cables for the back and actually USE it to record with.  As I remember, those early Echo interfaces were pretty good sounding...

Jeez.... an Echo Darla... If you had the card you'd be set. I don't suppose the PCI card was there too? It's worthless without it, but with it, you've got a $300+ pro soundcard.
I was considering an Echo card "back in the day", but I ended up going with an M-Audio Delta 1010..... highly recommended.

Nope, no PCI card (thus at the ARC for $2)...  It was in the original box with the Guitar Center price tag ($379.99)!!

I have a PreSonus FireBox for my computer recording interface - LOVE IT!

Hi Mike,
How about 5 channels of mic pre?
Or 3 cahnnels of mic pre's, and a stereo La-lite compressor set up?

Or some type of handy patch bay for your recording rig?

Not really pedal diy, but it came to mind.

You should drop by the shop soon, the music store was sold.
There have been some interesting changes for sure!

See you around,

So it looks like it just takes the TIP and RING connections of ten 1/4" jacks and maps them to the pins on a DB25 connector. I'm guessing all the SLEEVE connections are in common. Seems like this group can come up with an application to use it directly in its current form, some kind of effects patchbay, switcher or something. Heck, if you find another box just like this one, you just need to buy an off-the-shelf DB25 male-to-male cable, and you've got yourself a 10-channel balanced audio snake!

How about a multi-tap phaser ? Each jack can be a tap on a different stage. Mix them as you like.
