figured this out the other night when I ran out of standoffs. Applies more to perf building, but could be used for either.

1. take a thumb tack, the long cylindrical "bell" shaped ones (not the flat ones) made of plastic. snip off the pointy end of the tip.
2. rough up the flat side of the flat-bottom of the tack with some sand paper. rough up the metal on the enclosure where the stand off(s) will be.
3. Epoxy the tack/standoff in place, let the glue set.
4. get your circuit board in place, and lower it onto the snipped metal shafts sticking up from the tacks.
5. hold board in place and hit the place where the shaft and board meet with a bit of hot-glue, just like you would with the "proper" plastic standoffs.
6. Done! and no need to drill holes in your perf (if you are using perf).

No it won't save hundreds of dollars, but its cheap and you don't have to mail-order them!

I was thinking I might try some Blu-Tack - that stuff will stick to pretty much anything and is non-conductive :p
