Im preparing to build a Rat using Jack Orman's mods from his Muff/Rat E-Book here:
http://www.muzique.com/ebook.htm

I dont have any NE5534 single opamps.  However, I do have some NE5532Pe4 dual opamps.  I believe these to be the same thing, only the 5532 is the dual version, correct?
If I wanted to use the 5532 in the place of the 5534, I would have to substitute pins 6 and 7 on the 5534 to pins 1 and 8 (respectively) on the 5532.

Are my assumptions correct?

Just assign the pins of one OA1 or OAB to the circuit.
0f Course that means a different pinout assignment than a single.
The unused side should have it's inputs grounded..er if you can find layouts using 1/2 dual, use a different assignment to hold the unused side stable.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Hey, thanks pete!
I was unaware that I needed to ground the inputs for the other half of the dual!
As for the layouts, I have made my own, so the pinout issue is no problem.

Thanks again!

You could use the second op amp as the buffer thater than the Jfet.  Or, build a dual Rat like the ...
