Ruby Bassman - more bass ?

Will changing the input capacitor of the Ruby Bassman mod produce more bass ?
I just tried to put a smaller value in and IMO it sounded a little thin. Putting back the 0.1uF produces a bit more bass. I play the amp through a vintage 8" speaker from the late 40's/early 50's placed in a pine cabinet. I wonder if anyone has tried a larger capacitor and if it would produce more bass/enhanced low end. Any suggestions on a mod that would give this version of the Ruby more low end punch ?

Using a small speaker...there is a limit how much bass can be produced...and a larger input cap will not be a solution.  Try using a guitar cab w/a 12 inch speaker....I bet it solves the issue.  A larger cap will probobly just make your Ruby/speaker distort earlier.

What about the 220uF output cap? When I breadboarded a Ruby for a bass headphone amp I intuitively upped that to 470uF. I can't remember if I tried the 220, but I understand that there are other 386 amps with smaller (47u) cap and less bass response.

It won't hurt to experiment w/larger caps.  You can do this while playing...without re-soldering anything...
by simply touching a larger cap's leads to the ones already in place.  You WILL hear a difference....but it may be subtle.  A bigger speaker would allow it to be more apparent.

Thanks for the answers. I'll try that and see how it turns out.
