Regulated PS or Ultra-Clean PS?

Actually, I have exactly the same question...

depends on what you want.

The Ultra Clean utilizes a LM317, which allows you to set the output voltage with a resistor or pot.

The Regulated ps uses mains voltage. I don't like working with mains voltage.

What goal do you have in mind? A 1Spot is pretty clean too and has lots of mA.

If either of you goes down the road of the Regulated PS, I'd suggest you use the GEO Spyder instead. Use this transformator from SmallBearElec:

I've used that same transformer with 78L09 regulators and it worked real nice.

I'm going to use it to 'feed' my little stomps. I have a non-pcb-mount transformer, which I'm going to use. 12V, 1 Amp.
Most of my pedals work @ 9volts.

What do you mean 'uses mains voltage'? Don't they all?

I also thought about the PS on tonepad.

I prefer to use an adapter as input to my self-designed PS. I'm sure with some basic knowledge and skills working with 230v/110v is no prob at all, but I'd like to stay away from it, since I don't have that knowledge/skill. So I picked a 16v laptop adapter and use that as input to my PS. In my PS I use the 78lxx series to get 15, 12 and 9v output and I use a MAX1044 to get -9V.

if you're interested, here's a link to a thread where I post 'my' PS design, as described above:

I built the tonepad version.  I used a 120 vac to 12 volt 500ma transformer.  It's adjustable from 7 to 12 volts so it a little more flexable than a 78L09 IMHO.

Old Rocker: Which transformer did you use? I am preparing to do a supply and bought a 25V tranny(cheap) and it works fine. However it is huge and heavy! I need someting smaller.

Thanks

I'd also like to hear any recommendations for small 12v transformers.  I need to downsize my PS that's on my board now.

I pulled it out of a 12 volt adaptor that I bought with all the Ramsey kit builds.  It might not be small enough for what you're looking for.
I plugged it into the D. Hammond Highway 89.  Works great.  I haven't boxed it up yet.

thats just about the size of mine right now.  looking to downsize just a wee bit more...
