This is my first post and I'm brand new to diy.  I'm building my first box, The Tweak-O.  I've been reading as much stuff as I can on the interweb and I learned a lot already.

I am trying to find a diagram that shows me how to wire a battery and a 9v power jack.  I'm sure this is pretty simple to do.  Any help will be appreciated.

  GGG has that.
  tricks are...
  understanding the correct jacks
  actually attaining the right jacks
The wiring is fairly simple, but DMM helps sort things out, I like to have a Plug and jack handy and connectable to DMM [ie get a 2-plug wire or strip a wired plug, use the jack lugs], then do some separate testing of the pair to see '*what is Actually what, and when'
*What lugs connect when plug and jack are coupled? Which ones change states when de-coupled, make sure you cannot ever end up with 9VDC + and - connected.
You can't see whappens in a DC jack when DC plug is inserted/removed, but the DMM test can demonstrate it, when done in all various possible states of jack and plug ins and outses.
Tested this way one at a time is how I manage to try to figure 'em out.
I've never sorted out to actually buy DC switching jacks though, for me that'd be DC switching, insulated, w/positive pin, I guess, don't know if they even make that.
then do the same thing with the stereo jack and mono phono plug.
The mono plug sleeve is longer enough than a stereo plug sleeve...
when the mono plug sleeve goes in the stereo plug, look at how the MP sleeve touches both the sleeve And ring tabs of the Stereo jack...this is where the power supply circuit is *lifted [or] connected* when *plug is in [or] out* ..of the input jack, when input jack PS defect trick wirin is assigned.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

This any help...?

If you search the forum I'm sure my first question was about using a dc jack and battery and I got some excellent advice. If you can't find that thread let me know and I'll try and locate it.

Hope that sorts your problem.

That's what I was looking for.  Thanks for the help.

While on the newbie topic,  I'd like to build a tube based OD and/or Dist. pedal.  Is this a project I should wait a while on (are they really complex?)  Does anyone know of a good schematic/layout for one.  I found a tube driver layout which would be fun to build, but I'm looking for something a little meaner sounding, maybe along the lines of a Mesa or Marshall+more low end type of sound.

I have considered this too. For me the fact that most valve projects involve high voatges put me off! If you are O.K. with that then maybe someone else can point you in the right direction but when I heard th phrase lethal voltages mentioned and talk of hundreds of volts I was out the door.  ;D
