The tone control doesn't let bass and treble through at the same time as much as I would like.
Wider frequency band [I think] would make it more DIST+ like? or more to my preference.
Only thing I spot right off are C9 and the input cap, both .022uf.
Maybe I'm off base but it sounds a bit like a %^&*ed wah pedal -distortion.
Treble is pretty good and i can figure that, but I think it needs more bass with the treble.

Shows the Ruetz mod, but doesn't elaborate as to what tonal changes they make, mentioning the dumping of specific frequencies to ground, but not which ones, treble/bass etc.
I wouldn't mind getting a better handle on the feedback loop, how it works, what kind of reverse or non-reversed stuff goes on when dealing with the - and + opamp inputs.

The tone control in the stock rat is a adjustable lowpass 1st order filter I would quess it was designed more to take the edge/highs off the sound.  The output R of the opamp is about 1K and R9 being 1 meg allow
F= 1/(2 pi RC) to be close enought.  Now also try different tone stacks look for Duncans sim program.

You might not want a rat.  IMO the stock setup is the rat sound.

First figure out what you want
things like
input R
preshape EQ then distortion or distortion and EQ or..... What changes is what part of the frequency band gets clipped more
Do you want a built in EQ in the feedback network in the opamp distortion section like the RAT
Note what happens as the gain is turned up in the Rat do the RCs in the - input to ground make much difference?

What I would try is a 7 band eq or other EQs before and after the Rat to get an IDEA of maybe were you want the EQ

If what I read on the web is true part of Slashes sound is a EQ before the amp

Now R.G. and others have posted about pre and post EQ before

I changed the 47ohm for a 1k pot, perhaps I'll try a larger input cap mod too.

Slightly modified [treble control] Distortion Plus with a mini-booster in front of it.

funny you posted that about the D+ I just drew something up the other day

OT Yea, the Dist+'s gain fades if I try to mount it in the pedalboard.
still trying to figure out what besides the OA and electrolytics [both swapped to no change], could cause the gain to be sometimes input sensative.
The gain drops very low, gain comes back up...both can seemingly be adjusted by increasing input by hitting strong chords.
Preboosting drops gain to low level instantly. gain tends to move slowly  up and down, up when I've been playing power chords without boost, down if I do any single note leads.
  RAT:
I just de-cheated my 3PDT wiring to the assignments which ground the input, this eliminated the whine in my pedalboard when the RAT is connected in bypass mode.
I aslo put the Reutz mod [47ohm becomes 1k pot] which seems to make opening up the frequency band adjustable....highs are more present, tone control can then be set to allow more bass, good mod.
DIST+ still sounds more 'open', to me, 'open' is beneficial.
RAT is just 'squaky' like it's holding it's nose, higher gain but somewhat like a TS that way.
Disregard or correct any 'misnomer' descriptions, I'm typing as 'nomer' as I can with limited knowledge on RAT mods...this has 'all three' diode clipping configurations [btb: Si's / GE's and open].
