I figure must be the caps in it that were reverse polarized.
  Or something else.
Kind of neat effect, seems directly influenced by the amount of input.
Slamming a buncha chords brings in high gain and treble [sometimes/often enough to tell that can happen I think].
After a while all the slamming or no slamming seems to fade the gain, to a thin sound.
Mini Booster preboost turned on for exp's.
I've had this before where the volume is controlled by input level...sometimes, but unmistakable when it does, play along for a good while quiet, hit a few chords hard and the gain goes from like around 0 to 11.
Just wondering, for the OT record about that type of 'effect' .. about maybe the bypass cap is varying capacitence and that would vary gain or something.

  I changed the bypass cap.
Sounds voltage starved, could be the minibooster acting up..

Seems to work fine now, I've swapped the LM741.
