Which is which? Apparently the old/new markings confuse it all... So far I have A = linear and B = log. I need some for a pedal project...

Depends who makes the pots, alpha pots like smallbear or Maplin sell are A=log B=linear other manufacturers like CTS are the other way round A=Linear B=log.
If you've got some pots and you don't know what they are the easiest way to find out is to measure them with a DMM. Set the pot to the middle of its rotation and then measure the resistance from one of the outer lugs to the middle one. If the answer is about half the value of the pot then it's linear if not it's log.

http://www.banzaieffects.com/Mono-Split-Shaft-c-399.html I'm ordering some of these. I need 2 100KA and a 10KB for a 'Crunch' pedal. That also means I don't know which is which on the schems I have either... DOH.

slacker

yeah you want 100k log and 10k linear, actually I think the 10k is supposed to reverse log but linear works fine.
Most schematics use A for log, B for linear.

I have a maplin that's 100K LinA...
I ordered a 10KB from banzai... so I guess i got the wrong one? Doh...

slacker

I assume the 'Crunch' pedal you're talking about is the Crunch Box/CrunchIT in which case the 10kB from Banzai is linear so it will work fine for the tone control. A reverse log supposedly just makes the sweep of the pot a bit nicer, the pedal will work fine with a 10kB.

So a "C" pot would be an old code for a Log (audio) pot?
What is the letter for a reverse pot?

slacker

Just to make it confusing C is used for reverse log  ???
