I just put together a LPB-1 based on the tonepad schematic. I didn't have any 2n5088's but I thought the 2n5089 is a higher gain version of it, so I used that. With the gain all the way up, I only get a small clean boost. Any ideas?

double check that you have the transistor in correctly or just flip it and see if that fixes it.

Well flipping the tranny seems to have fixed it. It has a lot more gain now, about to the point of breaking up a little. I should've tried that first, but I figured it the tranny was in wrong, it wouldn't work at all. Now I know better. Thanks!

i'm pretty sure i did the same on my first lpb and, since it wasn't that long ago...

I just made another lpb circuit. I swear it's more work to hook up the switch and jacks etc. Especially when you're working with a tiny little box.
