Looking at the physical, how would you tell if the capacitor is Silver Mica?

A quick google image search turned this up:

They are almost always a deep red/maroon color.

I have also gotten yellow silver mica's from smallbear. But they always seem to shaped like the ones in the picture.

The shape tell the whole story? Is there any other type of cap with similar shape?

Now that you've seen them, test yourself.

Can you find the two silver mica caps in this build?
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.
Maybe I can afford one, if I do a little less drinking. - Fred Eaglesmith

Yup...two of the dark brown is the one....
How about the brown colour one? Metallized Mylar?

Is Metallized Mylar and Mylar different?

A metallized cap is one where the metal "plates" have been deposited as a thin layer on the dielectric film. The old fashioned way is to just use a thin metal foil for the plates. The advantage of metallized caps is that they can usually make them much smaller. Some people prefer the sound of one over another.
The cool thing about foil caps is that you can make them yourself at home with aluminum foil and wax paper...... well, sorta.  :icon_wink:
