LPB2 build problems

I just finished building the LPB2 (EH Linear Power Booster) from GGG.  I used just the schematic and built it on a perf board. I didn't have the 1.5M resistor or the 430K resistor. Instead I ran two 220K resistors in series (for the 430K) and a 1M and 500K resistor in series for the 1.5M. Everything looked fine but when I plugged it up it does the complete opposite of what it is supposed to. It actually pulls all of the tone out and makes the volume lower, even when the pot is all the way up. Any suggestions? Do you think the way I arranged the resistors is going to affect the sound?

Thanks.

turn the transistor around. i'll bet you a dollar it's backwards.

i only know cause i did the same thing not that long ago.

R's that way are fine, +1 on backwards tranny....

I actually tried turning the transistor around and it sounded horrible. It started popping and I think the battery even started to get hot.

if the battery was getting hot then you had a short. i've had many a tranny in backwards and, never got a hot battery from it.
