I was just perusing the PDF at GGG on the Neovibe and it seems the LDRs called for in the doc are obsolete!
Dang.
What are you folks using in these things that are still available?
Got a Mouser number?

I just got some really nice super-polished chromed steel mirrors that I'm jonesing to make a Vibe light box with.  ;D
Frankly, I'm tired of my Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe crapping out on me.
They've offered to fix it (again) for free but I want something that works for gigs so I may as well DIY the damn thing.
All MY home-made stuff works!  ::) ;)

Cheers,

Hi, i´m from Argentine. In my country i found these LDR Catalogs, is there anyone that can be used for the Neovibe project?

http://www.rodaronline.com/opto/opto5.htm
http://www.gmelectronica.com.ar/catalogo/pag81.html
http://www.dimexar.com.ar/Opto_celdas_fotosensibles.htm#CELDAS%20FOTOSENSIBLES

Thanks

I'd like to help but I can't read the charts in any of those links, I would only be guessing as I don't read (or speak) spanish.

Sorry

Thanks for the replies guys - exactly what I needed.

Now using these LDRs, what bulb would you recommend.
Everything I read about these, the LDR/bulb combo seems to be the hardest thing to get matched right.

The Radio Shack bulbs work fine, parts #272-1139 which is a 1.5V/25mA Miniature Lamp, and #272-1140 which is a 6V/25mA Miniature Lamp

I've used these before with quite good results:

http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G15581

they are like 4/$1

On another note, if you use JC Maillet's bulb bias offset adjustment mod it really hardly matters which bulb you use as long as the driver transistor can hump the load.

Hmm, seems weird that you can run bulbs that are rated anywhere from 3v to 18v and they all work?
What does the actual voltage run on the circuit at the point of the bulbs?
I'd like to make this reliable in the long term.
Last thing I need is another version of my MicroVibe breaking down on me all the time. ;)

I notice in the specs from Geo that this should be powered with a 14-16vac or 20-24vdc supply.
Any difference in how it actually works?

I have a big list in my Wish List already waiting for an order at the Goldmine (great place!) so I'll probably use those bulbs since they're dirt cheap and have the highest rating.
I think after browsing the recommendations, I'm going with these:
G15176  1k-20M
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G15176
and for a bulb:
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G15581
partly because they're built like the originals, but they also have a pretty wide sweep, are only $1 each and since I'm using a chromed steel box, I can mount them flat down facing straight up just like an original UniVibe.  8) 8) 8)

I have a box full of Germanium trannies I'll probably pull from to make this just for kicks.

Cheers!

I like the T)18 style LDRs the best one other thing that i found out is using a higher value pot for the volume will help keep it liquid sound.. the 100K just isn't enough ..
When you get it built try leaving the ground wire off the volume pot and then try it with it on..
these are the ones I like to use They have a fast rise and fall time to them.

The not cheep.. I tried lots of them and even used some from a glade air freshener and they didn't sound to bad either but as you all know a company like that will change there parts often to keep there price down..
Now if I can just find a transistor for the bulb driver other then the 2n3904's.. I'm i right in thinking the 2n2222 (i think they are) are a little hardier then the 3904's??\
Thanks guys and I hope this helps every one out..
