NeoVibe diodes - type critical?

Hi, Winding up for my NeoVibe build with all my parts in order.
Rather than order diodes for it because I don't have 1N4148 laying around, can I use any diodes there?

Aside from the diode bridge, it looks like there are only 2 diodes in the NeoVibe.
I have a ton of salvaged diodes I'd rather use in this if I can.

Cheers,
- JJ

She was funny like that.

1N914s should work as well.
Any signal diode with the same voltage drop should be fine.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I have a bunch of those - or at least a few. ;D

As a side note, and nothing to do with the Neovibe, but I've been looking at some good close-up pics of an original univibe and it would appear the diodes in the LFO section are the same as the diode used in the power supply... which would mean that even a 1N400x series diode should work fine these days too.
(three diodes on the board all appear to be the same type)

BTW, I have used both 1N914's and 1N4148's just fine in my vibe builds without any problems with either, to confirm what John posted.

The diodes in the LFO are what limits the size of the LFO signal.

In all sine wave oscillators, you need a bit more gain that just enough to make it oscillate, plus some non-linearity to prevent it from building up forever. If there is no explicit limiter, the size of the available power supply voltage limits it. In the Univibe, it's those two diodes.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
