Octave Multiplexer Guts Strangness?

So I opened up my new Octave Multiplexer last night because I was investigating doing some mods (adding status LED, convert to boss power jack, add a bass booster, and internal fuzz circuits for bluebox type tones) and i noticed something that seemed funny.  there was nothing connected to the sleeve of the output jack.  is there any reason it is this way?  seems to me that it would either make th epedal not work, or be really noisy because the output isnt grounded?

The jack is grounded by being in contact with the grounded enclosure. This is often done to help avoid ground loops.
