Maplin doesn't carry the right 5K lin pots, all they have is a 4.7K. Would that be ok? Or can I use a 10K and make it 5K somehow? Thanks for the help, I have other choices but Maplin for now..

Also, since pots tolerance is (I think) 10 or 20%, if you buy a 4K7 you might end up with a 5K reading one, and viceversa!

10k will also work just fine, since just like a 5k pot it can be adjusted to resistances of less than 5k.

I'm fairly sure I got a 4k7 pot from maplin instead of the 5k and I had no problems. Theres no reason at all why you should get any problems with that substitution.  :)
