Thanks analogmike and moro. So the pedal in question might just be a clean boost with variable frequency response, and not have it's own dirt? So I could make a germanium npn rangemaster and tweak to get the same effect (minus the tone that's in Blues' fingers)?

The circuit has some of its own dirt. He's taking a somewhat dirty boost and overdriving a somewhat dirty amp. That's pretty much what the whole Ge Rangemaster thing is all about.

As far as the silvertone amps, those ugly little amps crank. That's back when you could get good stuff from Sears. Hell, my old neighbor's house is a catalog-order house from Sears, they were sold as kits in the early 20th century. But that's another story.

...is it a joke, right?  or maybe Sears is like looney tune ACME with all sort of gizmo to frustrate coyotes too?

nope, sears did sell kit houses and there is a bit of a market with some people for them.

I'm impressed.
One day you open the door and there's a man outside telling you "goodmorning! there's a box for you outside, some dozen of tons circa. Could you please make a sign here?"

Silvertone...

Years and years ago I visited a friend who was attending the University of Washington. She had found a silvertone amp in the garbage. One of the 2/12 cab head deals... It sounded amazing but would start smoking after you played through it for an extended period of time. I think she ended up throwing it away..... bummer!

Hey, Man!  That sounds like a knock.

I know of a Sears kit house that is the best looking house on the block. No the others aren't just lame. The Sears house came with certain components that give it a special character.

You could call it house MOJO!
