First off, if your DS-1 is Taiwan made, you cannot easily transplant an 7136 into it. It won't work if you directly plug in the original IC. The pinouts are not the same. The 7136 is a single power op-amp, while the ones in Taiwan DS-1's are M5223's (do I remember correctly, might be M5218's) which are dual OP-AMPs in SIP packaging.

I've had the bad luck, or good-luck, learning wise, of having to deal with Japan DS-1's with busted IC's. The eventual solution was to stick in an M5223 and cut out and jumper the foil pads to allow the 5223 to work.

That being said, we had to resort to that solution because 7136's are practically non-existent where I am.

Small Bear sells TA7136P chips (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=579.)  If you want to build a DS-1 clone that uses the TA7136P, Tonepad.com sells a DS-1 work-alike that will accept either the TA7136P or a DIP8 dual op amp like the TL072/OPA2134PA/JRC4558/etc.  (Here's the link to the Tonepad DS-1: http://www.tonepad.com/project.asp?id=37.)

Other than that, you'll have to try your luck on eBay trying to score a pre-1994 DS-1 with the TA7136AP already in it.

Finally, Boss switched from the TA7136AP to the M5223AL.  They use the M5218AL in the MT-2 Metal Zone pedal (and perhaps others as well.)

If you're building or modding a DS-1, please check out my 'Build Your Own DS-1 Distortion' doc. Thanks!
