Hey guys,

I was wondering is it hard, and possible to build a Midi switcher?
Rack and floor board?
I have not really worked with midi before, but I am really wanting something cleaner that a board full of pedals and thought maybe I could build something...

Thanks

Matt

First go read the footswitcher articles at GEO.
Second, learn to program microprocessors.
Third, learn midi protocol (not that hard).
Fourth, use a send and a receive processor with a midi link between them. The two talk via midi and turn relay or CMOS switch loops on and off.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Are there any cheepos on the market that would work for home use that you know of?

Midibox is down at the moment. They're having serious trouble with a somewhat disreputable ISP, but should be back very shortly.

IMHO it's a great place to start looking for info for this project, particularly if you have any coding experience.

The book Digital Projects for Musicians by, Anderton, Moses, & Bartlett details an in-depth project involving a midi device that can be set up for a variety of functions. It's a useful read if you want to start learning about that stuff.

Still working just fine for me. Maybe they just "came back" and the change hasn't propagated through all DNS servers yet.
