Back in the late 90s, I had taught myself to use Ivex Winboard for the purpose of getting the board done for the Wild Mouse.  That's a good program, but it had some limitations, especially as respects printing to graphics files for creating toner transfers. Also, the company that had supported it appears to be gone.  Now that I am again getting some time to work on original designs, I decided to investigate Eagle CAD.

For those who are considering learning to design their own boards, or former users of Winboard, I'm glad to say that I'm really happy with Eagle.  The look and feel, and the general logic, are similar to Winboard, and Eagle makes it really easy to print out a one-to-one bitmap.  The program looks to be well-supported by the developer as well as by the large user community on this forum.  Like any CAD program, Eagle does take some work to learn how to use it.  But it is very well worth the effort.
