dod 280a reverse gating problem

Ive made a dod 280a using the generalguitargadgets layout.
My problem is that when i send a strong signal into it it goes quiet for the first few seconds then i get a HUGE sustain signal.
This problem is relative to the compress pot so it's worse when it's high.

Im using replacement opamp (opa213) and a homemade LDR/led setup with a regular red  LED inside.

I'm going to investigate how the LDR/led works and see if i can replace the led for something brighter maybe. i dunno I'll post my findings here when/if i get a solution.
