great essay! Thinking about building this thing tomorrow  :icon_biggrin:
But first ill have to see how my green ringer sounds with matched caps, because right now...its crap. Maybe i can fix it with matched caps...
No, it must be a bad circuit (Denial  ;D )

I was thinking of building a Green Ringer soon. Which caps are you matching? You're not happy with it?

My first few builds definitely had a "denial" stage when they wouldn't work at first.  First time it was that I reversed the battery connections (+ to -).  Second time I forgot to connect the power to the circuit.  Third time there was a solder bridge.  All of these are among the first things you are supposed to troubleshoot, according to every guide I've ever read.  ...But of course I told myself it couldn't possibly be the power connection, no!  It must be a faulty component, or stray capacitance, or etc, etc.  So yeah, denial stage, followed by "d'oh" stage.

But now I know that a modded fuzz face will work (slightly) with the power connections reversed!  ;D

I know it! Also be sure that the amp you're testing it through is turned on.... I've done that before.

Too funny!

I'm sure everyone here has gone through the same stages of emotion (in my case usually anger!).

Good job!

Axl

I was this close --->| |<--- to scraping it and starting over before testing every solder joint again.

Whenever I get to that "denial" stage I tend to pour myself a drink - before I get to the second "anger" stage - and then I go through the whole thing once again, but slowly. :icon_lol: Once I pretend to be a gentleman it usualy occurs to me what an imbesile geek I was just five minutes ago.

A nice cold beer definitely helps. Especially feels nice on all of the solder iron burns on my fingers. ouch. Cooked myself good on this one.

Which reminds me: My daughter tripped on my soldering iron cable the other day, but I managed to grab the iron as it flew through the air... Need I say more ?
