After reading around for a while I have decided to add two pots.

I would follow this article:

Adjustable: replace the 33K resistor with a suitable high-quality trimpot (something like 100K lin) - then you can tweak the wah/woh all day... Do the same with the 390Ω resistor (a 500Ω or so linear will work fine) to get adjustable gain/bass response. Just remember to set them to the correct value before installing, so you'll know where you are when you start. Some prefer soldering the trimpot in series with the existing resistor, which will guarantee that you never adjust it below the original value. Personally I'm not bothered by that, as an internal trimpot rarely gets adjusted by mistake.

My question is can you damage the circuit itself by having a resistor value below the original value? Would it be worthwhile soldering the pot in series with the orignal resistor? Just wondering?

Thanks

You can't damage the circuit with different values, so go for it.

i replaced the 33 k resistor with a 100k
the .01uF cap for a .022 cap
and the 1.5k resistor with a 2.2k
however when i hooked it all back up the tone canges when i hit the switch but the pot doesn't change the tone at all, its just set on a set tone,
what could i have done wrong? and how can i fix this problem?

Welcome to the forum.

Is the rack and pinion rotating the pot?

substituting the 0.01uF cap took out way too much treble for me. I had replaced it with 0.022uF just like you, but for me that was not a positive change. Although i did replace the 33k resistor, and it helped me adjust it to my liking.

while you have it opened up...

replace all the caps with good quality film caps...it will improve you wahs tone immensely.

it sucks that new wahs (like mine 95q) are made smd..you can't play with them :(

Hey newbonic, it sounds like you don't have the wire attached (on one end or the other) to the center lug or "wiper" on the pot.  Double check all the wiring on the pot, switch, and what it connects to on the board.

Yep, and remember that when usint a trimpot as variable resistor, use the middle and one of the outside lugs, not both outside lugs. Maybe thats the case?

One of my friends asked me to install an indicator LED on his newer 535q and I was disappointed to see a board full of SMDs... oh well...
