Snarling Dogs Whine-O Wah and the tube ride

First I have to come clean, I am by no means a wah expert. I however own two wah's, the above and a cry baby. The cry baby has one sound and to my ears it misses as if you do one thing you have to do it extremely well. It has the major shortcoming of the above (background noise) without the flexibility benefits. So, after many searches I have been unable to find a schematic for the Whine-O wah on the net so if anyone has a link, please let me know. My problem is that in any mode, with the footpedal forward you don't get crisp, clean highs, you get the equivalent of a tube ride at Pipeline in terms of background noise, with some distortion (ignoring the fact that it is a design feature in some modes and a cool one at that). A brief inspection reveals (to my eyes) a decent quality of components, so does anyone own one of these and reaped it's benefits without a visit to Hawaii?
