4558 in Stage Center Reverb didn't like the power supply ?

  Did I choose the wrong power supply?
  I started with a CT secondary tap and put a 4diode FWR and 68uf cap to get 14/0/14 Vdc.
  The 0.0Vdc, ground, is the center tap and grounds [marked with tapering horizontal lines].
  +14vdc to pin 8
  -14Vdc to pin 4
  blue smoke swirled from atop the 4558 when power applied.
  so...after freehanding a PS, I'm back to..wishing I had a PS on the drawing board.
  I have non-CT transformers with which I can get +/0/- supply and enough headroom, I just can't get around the grounds and the other grounds [slanted forks].
