Will this IC (NE556N)work for in an Atari Punk Console. I've tried to build this circuit on stripboard twice now. 2 failures. I'm wondering if I have the correct 556. Thanks for any help. This little noisemaker is driving me nuts.

I haven't heard anything yet about the IC so I've been quadriple-checking everything. I noticed on Dragonfly's layout that the red wire coming off of the 9 volt seems to connect to the red wire going to the pots. Do they connect? I can't tell.

Yes they all need to connect.  Board, 9V, and both pots

I used ne556n in the one I built (dragonfly layout), works fine  :)

Thanks! It looks like my problem is the wires do not connect. I am running the red wire into a spst switch for an "on/off'. How should I connect this with the pots. Should I have 2 wires coming out of the switch....one to the board and one to the pot? Thanks again,

join the connections from both pots and board together on one side of spst, battery + the other

Battery + connected to one pole of the switch. Board and pots connected to the other pole. Got it. Thanks!

Well I added the connection today and BEHOLD....My first working stripboard project! Whooo-hooo! This is a neat little noise-maker that I fit into a broken Squire tuner.
:D

Thanks for the help!

How would I add an LED to tell me when this thing is on? I'm just using a mono jack with a SPST switch. Thanks,

dpdt?
or have a look how it was done here... http://geocities.com/worthekik/atari.html
see if you can fit it in  :)

Looks like one leg of the LED goes to ground. The other is going to R4 which isn't on the schematic that I used. Hmm.... :-\

its possibly there to limit the current to the led just add it and see what happens  :)
adjusting the size for how bright you need the led.
