Hi,

I have a Line6 TonePort. Now I was wondering if it is possible to make one myself. What's in the box actually? Is it just some kind of preamp?

Its all digital.  You'll need some Analog to digital converters, some USB driver chips, as well as some software experience, to name only a few of the things.  It is possible to make a similar product, but it'll be a LOT of work, and not much analog thats for sure.
