Hi all,
I am new here, but I have to say this is a great forum.
Anyways, I'm planning on building (or attempting to build) a stereo pan pedal.  I want to make it so that I have one input, and two outputs, and use it to pan between two different amps.  I was planning on using a stereo preamp, and wiring them both to a dual gang pot for the level control, except wire one channel backwards.  Is this a good idea? Any better suggestions?
Cheers

Ernie Ball makes a stereo volume/pan pedal.  The digitech XP 200 modulator (the blue one) does as well, in one of the presets.  I'd go with a commercial pedal because the mechanics of rocker pedals (including finding or modifying the right pot) are hard to DIY, even though the electronics aren't.

If you could find a expression pedal with a linear taper pot, though, you could use the circuit used in the geofex.com article, "panning for fun".

here is a pan pot thingy (passive) that Dann Green from 4MS did up for me (he uses it in his stereo Triwave Picogenerator too)
what it does as when its say all the way to the right, the left channel is sent all the way to ground and vise versa
the resistors are there to stop the signal from shorting straight to ground, so they are necessary
Dann told me thought that they do reduce the volume a little bit, and can be lowered to 10k i think, but no less

That passive circuit would also work with a slide pot, no?  As long as the slide pot is 100k linear right?  My rocker pedal was originally a Boss FW-3, which uses a slide pot.  I was planning on using that.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
