Cut the top of pot shafts off or add more washers

How do you guys get the pots to sit lower (to get the knobs to sit more flush with the enclosure)

Do you add more washers to the other side of the enclosure or do you just chop off part of the shaft? I tried adding a nut and washer to get it to see more flush but now the pot doesn't stay when I move the knob all way to one side.

This is how mine is now :

Pot --- nut --- washer --- enclosure --- washer --- nut --- shaft --- knob

What do you do?

I make my own knobs, and countersink the bottom so that it fits over the pot nut.  But that's pretty hardcore DIY...

I use a dremel to trim it down. If you do, make sure to wear eye protection, the grinding disks have a tendency to break off and go flying.

Couple Questions:
Which knobs are you using?
Are these standard 16mm/24mm .5 inch pot shafts?
Which enclosures are you using?

I like to have the knobs cover the nut and sit flush as well. Using a typical NS or Hammond box I put a lock washer between the pot and the box and the knobs site almost completely flush. Of course with some knobs I've cut off the pot shafts with a vise and a hacksaw. Fill the burrs off and your good to go. Dremel shmemel...

I went and picked up some of them jagged star washers. Now I have the pot, the nut, and then the star washer...it seems to do a better job at keeping the pot from slipping.

And yes I am using the Taiwanese knock offs that small bear sells along with the 16mm alpha pots.

At one stage, I could only get long shaft pots - my trusty assistant Christine cut a couple of thousand down with a bolt cutter. Definite biceps developer.

Just adjust the height of the inner nut!

I have had a bunch of pots with longer shafts that I just used a hacksaw blade to cut them down.
