I have several mystery colour LEDs and I am curious as to what resistance I'd need with a 9V battery to test it's colour

10k going from + battery to + (long leg) of the led should be fine, this is how i test mine.

Someone recommended using a flat watch battery (around 3v). If you have one laying around, it's alot quicker and easier than hooking up resistors. I now keep one on my desk for that very purpose.

Yup!  A 3.2V Lithium motherboard battery is perfect for it.   ;)

Just slip yo battery between the legs and squeeeeeeeeeze.....   (Cue Barry White music...)
