Any use of 74HC74N in diy pedals (other than switching systems) ? Overdrive etc...? I might try the mxr bluebox but was hoping to use it in a simplier overdrive-style circuit..

Description on the datasheet: The 74HC/HCT74 are high-speed Si-gate CMOS devices

I got few dozens of these but was thinking if they are any use in DIY'ing.

I built an octave divider with one of these once.  Amplify your input signal into a square wave (0 to +5 volt), feed it into the clock input, connect the Q-bar output back to the D input and take your audio output resistor divided and AC coupled from the Q output.  It sounded pretty terrible as I recall, but sometimes that's the sound you're looking for.

Thanks pjwhite ! I know nothing of the CMOS chips. I have to study them colser to be able to do what You suggested  :icon_redface:

Thanks for the tip,
