What Drill Bit for EHX casing to add pot?

I have a EH Small Clone reissue and I am going to add the depth pot mod. I will need to drill through the casing (good thing it's kind of a thin sheet metal). I need to know if there is special drill bit that will get the job done (using a hand drill) and also what is the drill bit size (needs to accomodate a regular 10k pot).

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

I use the regular bits that came with my hand drill and it hasn't been too much trouble, I always drill a very small hole first and then widen it with the required bit, I just find it's easier that way.  If your pot has a 1/4" shaft (most do) I'd get whatever bit you had that was just barely bigger than that.  If you're not sure between two bits, go for the smaller, and then if it doesn't work you can use the bigger bit to drill the hole out.

The Unibit is your friend.  Regular twist bits will drill through metal but in my experience, they are much more likely to wander and either not leave the hole exactly where you want it or not leave a very smooth circular hole.  This is especially true when starting with a hole and making it wider with a larger bit (something a stepped bit is actually designed to do and does quite well).

If I need to make a screw hole in metal, I would put a dent in it with a center punch and go straight to the correct sized twist bit.  If I need to make a hole bigger than 1/8" I will be reaching for my Unibit (the center punch dent is still not a bad idea here though).
