I was working on a EF440 from GGG and I screwed up the tl022 chip that was supplied with the kit. Can I use a tl072 in it's place? If not is there anything that I can get at like Radio Shack?

Thank for the help

Hey Foozer,

I'd give it a try, in a socket until you can get a new '022.  Looking at the spec sheet, the TL022 is a much lower performance unit than a 72.   They differ in input impedance, noise characteristics, slew rate, etc.  I don't know how using a better opamp would affect your circuit - could make it noisier, could make it suck, or could even make it better!   But the pinout is the same, and the voltage characteristics very close, so it shouldn't hurt anything.   Could also try a 4558.
Radio Shack doesn't carry anything good, gotta use Smallbear ;o)

The TL022 will use less current, which is probably useful when you need to economize on current for the purposes of having something left to drive an LED with (and light up a status LED too).  If you are powering from a wallwart, though, a chip change should make little difference in sonic performance.

RS doesn't usually carry TL072 ICs. They do carry a hi-fi version, the TL082.
Not sure if a hi-fi version of that dual opamp will sound how you want it to.
They're cheap enough though and can be used in tons of other stuff though, not bad to keep one around.
My Momma always said, "Stultus est sicut stultus facit".
She was funny like that.

Thanks for all the ideas. I guess the 72 works okay. Radio Shack does suck but I have one 5 minutes from me. Of course that's usually a waste of time/

Thanks
