So I have a rocket and like it, but I notice that it has a ton of hum that goes away if I turn either the gain or volume knob all the way up? This also eliminates squeal, but if they are less than up the hum comes back. And between 3/4 and all the way up on the gain, it goes through like a weird filter of squeal and stops at all the way up, most of the noise gone and sounds great?

Any ideas on this? I probably would leave the volume all the way up most of the time, but figured this is a sign of something else.

Clip to a ground point with the DMM, and beep mode to all ground points, testing continuity.
Both jacks sleeves, all things marked Gnd.

man, this is an old post.  However, I just built my first pedal, the Rocket, no modifications, and it's doing the exact same thing described by eric.  I'm wondering what the outcome was.  I love this pedal, though.  It's exactly what I was wanting.

I don't remember this, but anything's possible. What kind of transistors did you guys use?

5088's.  I used R.G.s layout, which had your original notes on it; but the parts list was his, afik.  It seems to be a treble issue (like I know)?  When I adjust the volume on my guitar down, it squeals like crazy.  Also, if I switch to different pu's on my guitar (not sure neck or whatever, just the trebly one), it does the same thing.  I have to back the tone towards bass to keep it from squealing.  In addition, with the pedal plugged up but not on, it sounds like a hive of angry mosquito's (this is in bypass).
