So i did the Monte Allums H20 mod and it sounded great....while out of the case. When i put it back together, i forgot to put the plastic peice between the traces of the circuit board and the bottom panel. So i turn it on and the LED goes and poof no sound. Obviously the result of a short. So what i need to know now is, none of the components on the board show signs of being ruined.. but then again, this isn't an amp so i probably would not see anything. Is there a way for me to trouble shoot this? Could it be the burr chip? I am thinking of turning it over while powered and following the traces, seeing if there is resistance or I suppose i could power off and test for continuity with an ohm meter. Would this allow me to solve my problem? Or am i SOL on this one.. i'd hate to pitch the entire unit because of my stupid mistake.

You can do some very simple checks using a multimeter. I should be very easy to find and fix the problem.  With the unit powered up, measure the DC voltage throughout the circuit:

- Q2 emitter (8V power); 4V
- IC4A pin 1 (4V power); 8V
- Q2 source (buffer); just under 4V say 3.8V
- Q9 collector (1st stage); 4V
- Q12 collector (2nd stage); 4V
- IC1B pin 7 (eq stage); 4V
- Q7 emitter (gyrator); 3.4V
- Q5 emitter (internal buffer); 3.4V
- Q1 emitter (output buffer); 3.4V

Beyond that check both the drain and source voltages of the switching JFETS,  Q4, Q6, Q8; should be 4V

Refer to schematic: (some desigators are hard to read I hop I got them right)

That should get you started, there's a few more things you can check but do the above first.

When you say "the LED goes" do you mean that it blew? Because I've had a DS-2 and an SD-1 that quit working when the LEDs blew and resumed normal operations upon replacing said LED. Just a thought. It'd be great if it's something that simple, right?

Would be sweet if the LED was the problem.. i might still try that. In the meantime, i swapped the old chip back in and even with the burned Led, the pedal works again. So i am thinking it must be the burr chip unless the LED really is the clincher. I guess it can't hurt. Guess my H20 is about to get a green led lol.
