I'm working on the GGG layout that has a switch that switches between diodes and LEDs as clippers/ What I want to know is should the LEDs light up with signal. It was working for a while (til I fixed it :icon_wink:) During my debug something happened and it made a tremendous noise and then it went away and I haven't been able to get it back again. So I suspect it does more than I have seen.

Thanks

everytime i've used leds as clippers they've lit up

jeffery,
so the leds lit up before and now they don't?

foozertone

They did for a moment....I should clarify that before that happening, it soundedwhat I thought to be okay.

I've built two tube screamers and the clipping led's on both of them hasn't lite up....Does that mean I have the polarity mixed up and I have to flip them both around. :icon_eek: :icon_redface:

Stellan

The polarity on the LEDs should be opposite each other, so changing them both wont make a difference.

Grizz

yes I installed them with the polarity opposite of each other...that's why I think I need to swap both of them. I've built two of them so I'm gonna try swapping the LEDs on one of them, I can't  bear to tear apart the other one....I've got the wiring all nice and neat.

Grizz

Here's what I figured out...my leds don't light up until I strum a chord.

In my experience, LEDs in a Tube Screamer do not light up when signal is passed through them. However, LEDs do light up in a circuit that clips signal to ground, such as a Rat or Distortion+. Perhaps it is because in a TS, the clipping is done in a feedback loop instead of to ground? I'm really not sure.
