Friend of mine just called, he knows I do DIY stuff and wants me to solder a lose wire in his amp back in place. I have never really worked with amps, but I know that caps can carry charge even when unplugged. Would it be safe for me to do this quick job for him? I would hate for him to spend the money for someone to take a look at it here.

Thanks

Carefully discharge the caps before you solder.  Then you should be safe.  When they say "jumper", I would suggest using a heavy-ish piece of well-insulated wire, and make sure you don't zap yourself.

Some amps do a poor job discharging the caps when you shut it off.  Some do a good job.  It really varies from circuit to circuit.

If somebody makes a mistake, help them understand what went wrong.  Show them how to do it right.  Be helpful.  Don't just say "you're wrong, moron."

Thanks a lot, he just texted me a reply and told me its the wire connecting to the speaker (speaker end). Do I still need to discharge caps?

No, you don't. As long as you aren't actually OPENING the chassis, then don't worry about the caps.

I assume this wire is outside the amp chassis?

Alright, thats what I assumed, at first I just didnt know where the wire in question was located, thanks all for the assistance.
