Hey Dave, it looks like we're both in the heart of trying to get this project figured out. As far as testing the polarity reverse, the simplest idea might be the best. I would just run a clean signal through both channels. If your signal disappears when you flip the inverter on, it works.

edit to add...just make sure the mixers blend pots are equal on both channels.
