Is there a way to confirm pickup polarity? Other than asuming the black wire is ground. I question the schematics for my guitar.

I always thought that if it was a two conductor pickup that it didn't matter?

^...Unless you're combining pickups, or one of the wires is connected to shielding in the pickup itself.  Like maybe a metal cover or casing or whatever.

You can check the magnetic polarity by trying to touch the pole pieces of one pickup with another.  If the attact they are opposite, and you'll be able to wire it as RWRP.  You'll still want to choose the wires which give you in phase signals with the screwdriver test.
