Im planning to make my own power supply and i have found a transformer which produces 12vDC. would 12V make any difference or damage a normal effects pedal that normally runs on a 9v battery?

Hi Mate, welcome aboard.

This was discussed just a few days ago here http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=68104.0

Have a read, and see if that answers your question!

I pulled the 12v transformer from a non-regulated power adaptor and used a LM317 from the tonepad schematic and can now adjust the voltage from about 7 to 12 volts with the trim pot.  I have it set for 8.98 volts to power up my Highway 89 pedal.

oldrocker: You might not have enough extra voltage to properly output 12V. Have you looked at it under a scope?

mon.ki: You can use a 7809 regulator to get the voltage you need.

It's slightly under 12 volts but not too much for what I use it for.  It puts out 9 volts quite accurately though.  No I don't have a scope yet.
