Been away for a while, need sugestion

Hi

I´ve been away for a while of all this DIY stuff. I´m an amateur, only built the mini portable amp and that stompbox that tries to imitate the brians may sound.
Anyway i have a stompbox from a mk2 that stopped working and a friend of mine gave it to me. Now i wanted to give him a surprise and make the thing work but with another effect. I am looking for something simple to make and that can be made with parts that are easy to find. As for the type of sound my friend really likes Slayer and those kind of distortion sounds so an effect distortion pedal similiar to Slayer would be nice.

Any suggestions?

Can't say if your friend will like this but it's low parts count, pretty simple build and it sounds really good if you like high gain metal. There are sound clips in the thread somewhere. Good Luck

  Considering plugging something into what.
  I use DIST+ with a treble knob, pre-boost, another feedback-loop clipper stage, plus the basic tube amp.
  The double clipped boosted approach is a long road unless your used to attenuating and other frequency tweeks, throwing in a treble cut cap or tightening up the bass.
  Otherwise any deuce-clipping, 3 knobber [Gain Tone Volume] is nice for plug into x and go type sound.
  Take away another knob and perpare for luck or possible want for internal tweeking, simple has it's merits, confidence it was left-'right' not necessarily being one of them.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I think i´ll go into something simple as the dist+ but with some tweking. Maybe a simple effect with a preamp.  Im not really good with the soldering iron so the less things on the circuit the better. The stompbox has 3 pots knobs so maybe one for gain, and another two for tweeking stuff ( maybe one for volume). Il breadboard a dist+ then ill add the pre amp and play with it to see what i want. Im dont understand too much of electronics but somehow i´ve managed to build some stuff that sounded good.
