Maybe it`s the LDR but where is it going?

foxfire

my guess is that it is a passive trem much like darren's optical trem. so the led/ldr combo shorts the signal to ground. the main problem i had with darren's trem was that it was too quiet without some sort of boost in front of it.

Well, if R4 was the "R" of the LDR, and if the bottom leads of R3/C3 were moved down a strip, it would make more sense...

newfish

Zut Alors!

Me and my crazy late night brain.

R3 and C3 *should* go one strip lower - thus feeding the Anode of the LED.

Never used a LDR before, but uh whats the value of the one needed? ??? :icon_redface:

You need a glade plug-in, in on a footswitch.  Kick on the big muff, then hit the air freshener pedal.

the value of R4 would interest me as well!

newfish

Ah, right.

*finally* got online to make some corrections.

R3 and C3 have now been moved down to their proper position - supplying juice to the LED (shown as D2).

Wasn't sure what the layout symbol for an LDR was, so I've used the standard Resistor symbol - labelled R4.

I'll get a schematic drawn up - then it *should* make a little more sense.

We've had family visiting for a few days, so I've not really had chance to do circuit-style things.

...as stated, here's the Schematic.

Hopefully it should make a little more sense.   :o

What's the value of the LDR ??? I'm confused.

To be honest, I used an LDR I had lying around.

There are no markings on it as far as I can see - it's just a simple circular 'solar panel' roughly 1/4 of an inch diameter (6mm or so).

If you've got LDRs with markings / specified values, I'd say 250K or so.

Will post a photo later on.

...and here they are...

Second one slightly out of focus, as my Camera won;t zoom in that far (even on Macro).

Hope this helps.

Checked again - and there really are no markings on these components.

Thanks! I'll just find a couple values and try it. I can't wait to make one of these. :)

Mann

Did anyone make this one?

newfish

This has been a slow burner - but I've got there.

I've substituted the LED / LDR combination for a 4-pin opto-isolator - with excellent results.

The effect used to be very subtle - but is now a full square wave on / off effect - without the ticking that was previously creeping in.

Will be adding a 'blend' of some sort to give a softer option, but for now it's a very 'How Soon Is Now?' kind of sound.

Updated layout will happen shortly too.

Good Good, still haven't gotten around to experimenting with it but am eagerly awaiting its finished design! :D
