hi,im only posting this cause i am truly stumped!
i have a reissue ts9 in which i removed the diodes and in thier place added a dp3t on/off/on swith to switch between stock diodes, clean boost and three 1n34a's.
clean boost and 1n34 selection is perfect, however the stock two diode setting sounds crackly and the sustain decays in a strange, crackly way. i have tried 4 switches, and numerouse diodes to make sure these components were ok. i replaced the 51pf cap thinking it wasnt making a good connection. different op-amps too.
why would 2 of the three switch positions work, while the 3rd with two stock symetrical diodes sound crackly????????
i even tried a dp3t on/on switch, one side was fine, the other had that crackly decay.
ive installed this configuration in several ts9's so i know it works. ive checked all my solder connections for any bad joints.
i dont have a multi meter so i cant post any readings. so i'm hoping somebody here has experienced a similar phenominum .
any ideas what could be going on here?  ???
thanks in advance for your time!     bk

oh, i wired up the on/on switch according to the diagram in the post on this page ''dp3t wiring diagram''
and the on/off/on switch like this-

1  2  3      1  2  3         1  2  3
|                   |                      |
4  5  6      4  5  6         4  5  6

the diodes are across poles 1/4  and  3/6   with wires from 2/5 to the board diode location.
ive tried switching the wires around but that should make no difference.

Diode orientation?  Or maybe a damaged diode?

diode orientation, one + faceing one way the other + faceing the other way accross lugs 1/4 of the switch.
and in trying 4 switches,i used new diodes as well. how on earth could two of the 3 positions be working? ???

Is it possible you are seeing the switch backwards/upside-down?  You might be actually hearing the 1n34a's instead of the Si diodes.  The three Ge diodes are gonna sound pretty farty in a TS, FWIW.

afrogoose,you are correct!
the 1n34's sound terrible in this cirquit.symmetrical or assymetrical made no difference.farty tone.
assymetrical 3mm red leds was all it needed for a nice crunchy distortion.
i feel like the moron who forgot to install the opamp or check the battery! :icon_redface:
[wait,i've done that]
