Hello everyone!
Firstly, I'd like to intruduce myself and my bad english to this forum.
I'm a freshly recruited DIY-Addict from Germany and have one question for the start:
What devices do you know, that use only 10K Pots (best linear).
I gutted an old light-mixer, which contained about 50 Linear 10K Pots,
and Pots are the most expensive Electronic Components in Stompboxes, right?  :)

cheers,
Mario

I wish you a kind welcome. There are lots of pedals that use 10k pots as volume controls before and after gain stages etc. Nothing comes to my mind that uses ONLY 10k pots, but I bet someone else will be able to think of something.

To answer your other question, no, the most expensive part is generally not the pots. The most expensive parts are often the enclosure and the foot switch. The cost of actually making the circuit board (if that's what you choose) adds up when I think about it now.

Hope someone can suggest a project.
Blood, Sweat & Flux. Pedals made with lasers and real wires!

pots aren't that expensive with the low dollar and all...
www.futurlec.com
.55 $ for a pot...

One good application for 10K linear pots, is as a source of control voltages.
If you were making a step sequencer, they are just right.

plankspank

Rangemasters use a 10 K pot on the collector. It calls for a log taper, but linear will work fine...

Thanks for the replys so far!

Well, pots are not that expensive, but if you build stuff like a fuzz factory they cost (at least here in Germany) about twice as much as the rest of the circuit...
Footswitches and Enclosures are also not too expensive, if you live near a junkyard, like me ;D and use Millenium Bypass with those cheap chinese DPDTs
Anyway, my main goal is to recycle those old pots I have lying around,
I'll probably start with the Rangemaster (thanks plankspank!), which looks useful!

@Nokaster: Thanks for the Link! I think I'll get myself some more pots soon!  :icon_biggrin:

@Frostwave: You mean, like a Stab knob in a Fuzz Factory?

Suggestions are still greatly appreciated!

cheers,
Mario

Welcome aboard!!! As you're in Germany, you should order all you need thru Banzai, search for their site banzaielectronics...They're DE located, so the shipping should be low - else buy things from the US (€-$ change is + or - 1.55!!! )

I didn't know them before, I ordered everything from a local store, who are a lot more expensive, so thanks for telling me!
This forum really is a goldmine of knowledge in comparison to all related forums I've been before...  :icon_mrgreen:

Lots of Craig Anderton designs use 10k pots... mixers, fuzzes, tone controls, etc.

Also, Das Musikding is located in Germany.
But, I order from Banzai, because of the bigger inventory.

don't forget that you can turn the 10k pots into any other lower value with parallel resistors.

I was thinking more like an oowah type of device (though given the Zvex tradition of low power use, the pots there are prob more like 500K!
Or a step oscillator like http://bofh.rubiks.net/electronics/sequencer/  note.. a bunch of 10K pots.. could give stepped input to a ring modulator, for example.
