I have had this pedal for 5 or 6 years now and i really like the sound of it but i keep the tone control turned all the way down.  I'd like to mod the tone control to get a more useable range. I have a schematic but it's HUGE  so it's difficult to find what i'm looking for on the computer screen and if i print it out everything it too tiny to read.

any ideas on this? If somebody has a more normal sized schematic maybe i could figure it out.

i think the thing i love about this pedal is what other people dislike. It sounds a lot like a fuzz. I didn't realize that's why i liked it tuntil i built a fuzz and compared them.

I posted something like this a while ago.  I never used the tone control so I just removed it and put the resistance at what it would be all the way turned down.  There are a ton DS-1 mods.  Look into some of those.  A lot really don't alter the overall sound, they just really smooth it out.  I really liked the JCM mod.  Also swap out the chip with something better.  I put a Burr Brown in mine.  With the tone control out you got a nice spot to put a switch to kick it in and out of a hi gain mode.

That's the way I would go if you don't use the tone control.

I feel your pain!
C100 is the small cap under the actual tone pot. Change it from the stock .01 to a .047. This adds more overall bass and helps a good bit. This is the cap that Keeley switches his bass boost switch in with. I think he goes from a .01 to a .068. The more you adjust that cap away from the .01 the more bass and less "harsh" tone control you get.

You can also change R31's 1.5k to something like a 2.2k or 4.7k (anything in that range to taste) for less highs as well.
