Suggestions for a distortion circuit

Hi

My friend had a BOSS MT-2 that ceased to work so i asked him to give it to me. Now i have a good enclosure and goods pots for me to build a circuit to fit it.
The thing is that his birthday is coming and i was hoping to use that enclosure and just make it into a DIY circuit diferent from the last one but something that suits his taste.
So i´d like to hear suggestions for distorion DIY circuits that have some really good distortion. I was hoping to get a sound like SLAYERS since its his favourite band.
Can anyone help me?

I´m not inclined for a Fuzz since he doesnt like them. What he likes is some good heavy distortion but not fuzz, cause that he really doesnt likes.
