Anyone make a Landgraff modded BYOC Screamer?

How good do the 1N914s sound with the Landgraff mods or does it sound nicer than the LEDs?
Did you have any issues with the 1k replacing the 4.7k in the gain stage?
Also, what other diodes did you try with the Landgraff?

I like two 1N4001 with one 914. That's what's stock on the BYOC board. I used the LEDs too. Sounds is very different. LEDs sound more natural to me in front of a clean amp.

I never played a real tube screamer but have built many. It's a unique sound where the stock 808 sounds like the clipping is blended with a clean signal. Unless i've built them all wrong.

I used a 1.2 or 1.5 for that resistor. People say a 1k might squeal.

Thanks.
I am going to use a 2.7k to be safe for the gain resistor.
I might go with the LEDs.

modded my TS9 to something similar with LED clippers and 1K resistorm didn't bother with any carbon comps though ... Sounded great! ... I love the way LED's clip just slightly ....

1k won't oscillate with the 500k gain pot. Keep in mind that part of the landgraff magic is component choice and layout...

In the mods it is recommended to use a 1meg gain pot. So should I use a 1k resistor and the 500k pot or use the 1meg pot and a 2.7k resistor?

I used 1M pot and 1K resistor on a pedal I made and my Ts9 mod and had no issues with oscillation.

You won't hurt anything by trying it ;)

I never saw all the fuss about the tube screamer until I got hold of an old JRC4558. I didn't like the pedal it sounded like a bee trapped in a tin can. I tried allot of chips in this thing but the JRC chip seemed to break up the buzziness of the diodes and gave extra overtones that makes it sound more tube like. Or maybe I'm just imagining it   :icon_rolleyes:
