Hi all,
I have 90% complete ROG modified EA tremolo here on perf board but I cant locate bs170 or the 2n5088 chips anywhere locally. I have nothing else I need so its a pain to order them from online.

However I do have some other chips I salvaged from a VCR here that I think might do the trick.

The 2n5088 is a gen purpose amp according to my googling...I have located C1815...this should do the trick right?

Im in australia...pretty much locally all I have is Jaycar Stockist...does anyone have a suggestion of something that will replace the bs170? its a N Chanel Mosfet...will any other N chanel mosfet work? Will an N Chanel JFET work like the 2n5485?

Im pretty new to all of this so please excuse my noob questions :D

Cheers

uhh, transistors, not chips
the 2n5088 can be substituted with on the jaycar list with either BC547 548 549 and 550
the bs170 is a fet, it can be substituted with a 2n7000, but it might not sound the same
bs170 can easily be bought of the net
you can get them in bulk on ebay i believe too
also, google the transistors datasheets and get there pinouts so you dont make any mistakes with that

Yes, you can use the 2SC1815 instead of the 2N5088. However, the pinout is definitely different, and you must allow for the differnent pinouts to get it to work.

The 5088 is EBC when viewed at the flat face, pins down. The 1815 is ECB when viewed the same way.

MOSFETs and JFETs are not interchangeable. No, the 2N5485 will not work the same or similarly to either a BS170 or 2N7000.

If you're looking for a BS170 for a millenium bypass, go look at the Millenium C at GEOFEX - http://www.geofex.com.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

For the input stage, pretty much any low-power n-channel MOSFET should work.  Check data sheet for pinout.

I used a 2n5458 and a BC549. As mentioned, just watch the pinout on the BC549. I work at Jaycar and can confirm that we sell both of these

Hi.

If you can't find the BS170 or the 2N7000 Mosfets, i recommend you to build the EA tremolo from GGG, because in that circuit the preamp does not use Mosfets, just BJT and Fets instead.

The GGG EA is a great vintage sounding Tremolo, so organic and musical that you would stop searching for the HiFI that gives you the Mosfet on the preamp stage.  ;D

Use the replacemets that others mention here for the 2N5088 and the Fets. I know you have the perfboard almost ready for the ROG's EA, but you should give a try to the GGG's EA in order to use available parts in your country.

Good luck.

...erm, further to my post, I also built mine from the GGG layout with those parts I mentioned.
