Finding parts

New building and starting off with a tonepad rangemaster.

However sourcing capacitors with 0.005uf/0.01uf/0.05uf values seems to be proving a problem.

Still grasping the basics so if someone can tell if they would be listed in a differnt way I.E mf, or something that would be great or just a place to get em.

I know mouser do them but I live in the uk and they charge 25 dollers for shiping which would be crazy to pay for a few capacitors.

Any advice would great

Finding the .05 and .005 in the UK might be difficult. I`ve never found any but maybe someone will pipe up and correct me. The .01 is common enough. You should be able to get some in, dare I say it, Maplins. In place of the .05 and .005 you can use .047uf and .0047uf respectively. The .0047uf may be listed as 4700pf. Same thing.

Alternatively, if you wish to go the mail order route there are a couple of places in Europe that cater specifically to the pedal-building market. If you get enough stuff at the same time the postage isn`t too prohibitive.

This link may be useful to you if you unsure about converting between values of capacitors

I'd suggest rapid electronics as the best place to buy stuff in the uk, ive been able to find everything i need on there (apart from 3dpt stomps) , and a quick search has shown that they have the parts your after i believe. Best to have a browse round and find a bunch of stuff you need, enclosures, tools, bulk buy a few useful things, and get the free shipping. You'll use it all anyway. And they deliver pretty much the next day.

Maplin only if your desperate, far better to buy online, for example, £4-5 for a dpdt stomp at maplin, £1.20 from rapid.

How long have Rapid been doing stomp switches? I got a load of stuff off them recently and didn't see them!!!!!!! Also check out the ceramic and non-polar elecrtrolytic caps at less than 1p each and 100 carbon film resistors at 50p. BTW I think Maplin's DPDTs are nearer £6 now.

Maplins are a bunch of B*****ds, they have given me nothing but misery and despair.

+1 on the Rapid recommendations.

Used them for the first time last month - and couldn't have been easier.

Next day delivery on parts that are a fraction of what Maplin are selling them for.

No contest in my book.

here are the footswitches:

I think they've been doing them for a while.

Also buying from rapid, if you buy a few heavier items, and make your order over a kilogram, they send it by courier rather than royal mail, and you get it a bit quicker, and don't have to trek to the post depot.

Although im getting a bad habit of doing big rapid orders all the time, im probably going to start looking for a bunch of other parts so I can order a bunch of stompswitches and get free postage.

Cheers for the help guys, very kind of you.

Jim,
Welcome to the hobby and good luck.  When I started, understanding all of the types and sizes seemed so overwhelming, but you eventually figure it out and get used to it.  If you have any questions, there is a tremendous amount of information available on this site, and people here to answer the questions that you aren't able to figure out yourself!

have fun,
Jonathan

PS- enjoy that rangemaster.  I've made a few, and none sound better than the first one I put together and foolishly gave away!

Just ordered 10 latching stomps, they come down to 94p each + VAT. That's another good thing about Rapid! Bulk ordering.
